Maria Albertina Nunes' Obituary
Maria Albertina Nunes passed away peacefully in her sleep at San Diego, California on August 9th, 2015 due to a stroke at the age of 89. Maria Albertina was born in the seaside town of Paul do Mar on the Portuguese Island of Madeira in the spring of 1926 to Silvestre Rodrigues and Maria Sequeira. She was the youngest of five children and lost her father when she was an infant and and then lost her mother at the age of 12. Maria Albertina married Horacio Marino Nunes on October 4, 1948 and began a family and eventually had 5 children. Horacio later immigrated to the United States of America in 1960 for employment in San Diego. Maria Albertina and the children subsequently joined Horacio in America and the family shortly settled in Point Loma in the winter of 1963. Maria Albertina was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and dedicated her life to family and the Catholic faith. She was a faithful parishioner at St. Agnes Catholic Church, a member of the Lady of Fatima Society and a member of the Portuguese choir. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, crocheting and cooking. Maria Albertina and Horacio were married 52 years when her husband passed away on October 9th, 2000. She was also predeceased by her 4 siblings Agosto, Marculino, Manuel, and Conceicao Rodrigues. She is survived by her daughters Ana “Ann” and Cristina “Tina” (Steve) and sons Joseph “Joe”, John (Rosemary) and Marcelino “Marc”, 9 grandchildren Christina (Gabino), Denise, Greg, Kevin (Alisha), Scott (Alicia), Joseph (Nataliya), Marissa (Blake), Matthew, Nicole, and 9 great grandchildren Danielle, Chad, Jamal, Gaven, Eli, Annabelle, Aria, Cora, Andrew.
