Maria C. Rodriguez's Obituary
Born; Maria de los Angeles Corona Carranza, May 5, 1931, to Bruno Corona Michel and Dominga Carranza Garcia. Maria was the youngest of 8 on her maternal side. Also, the youngest of 19 on her paternal side. She was born post the Mexican Revolution era in a little town called El Chante, located within the city of Autlan de Navarro, in the State of Jalisco, located east of Guadalajara (Guadalajara being Mexico’s 2nd largest state at the time).
Unfortunately, her father fell ill and died when Maria was only three years old. Her elder brother, Tomas relocated the family to Tijuana, B.C., Mexico in 1938 where he was settled. Tomas would purchase rural land and several of her brothers would help prepare the rural land for farming, then putting it up for resale at a greater price. Her younger brothers attended the stables of the local racetrack, Agua Caliente where Tomas was partially invested. Life was not easy but, in her eyes, it was the best. Her brothers spoiled her with love and praise. She would look forward to them coming home every day. Though, she would be mischievous at times along with her brother Fidencio, taking and racing the horses along the rural land. (By the way, not sure if she won all the races or if Fidencio just let her win.) Those were happy moments she shared with her loved ones over, and over again. She loved and missed her brothers, sisters and mother very much!
Maria was raised a devoted Catholic, attended all girl local convent, it was her dream to become a nun someday. Her dream came to a halt when she met Jose Isabel Rodriguez a young handsome local hottie! He was the best dancer and popular among the local girls. Everyone wanted him, but once he met Maria, he only had eyes for Maria! They married several years later, and the Rodriguez Corona Family began: Irma Isabel+, Aida+ deceased. Marcelino, Juan Hector, Adelita, Deida, Mirna, Raul, Lilia, Irma Leticia, Mario and as if 11 was not enough…also, raised her grand-daughter, Maricella Angeles. Maria partially helped raise Raul’s son Raulito, Deida’s kids; George and Anna Marie. Though, all her other grandkids called themselves the favorite too. They were all special to her in her heart.
74 years later the family has grown to include 11 Children, 29 Grandchildren and 41 Great Grandchildren.
Maria legacy was to create the aroma of freshly made flour tortillas through the meadows surrounding the Tijuana’s rivers. She made piles of tortillas and cooked them in a wood burning stove daily for the farm workers at age 19. From those days forth the smell of freshly made flour tortillas has filled the air in her home constantly. She made sure all who visited her had something to eat even if it was tortillas and beans. She believed that the thicker you were, the healthier the person was.
Maria took over her brother Tomas’ trait; to work hard and build a better future. Not forgetting about the less fortunate; she was always willing to lend a hand when people needed it most; She provided temporary housing for many over the years to help them reach their goals in life. She provided clothing, food, milk/formula to those in need. She employed many and paid much more than was expected just to get them to receive when they were in need.
Maria was a warrior, a humanitarian, a loving daughter, a fun sister, a nurturing mother, a caring grandmother and an affectionate great-grandmother. She has been the favorite Auntie for many, and the best friend to most.
Rest in peace our beautiful loving Maria DE LOS ANGELES. May the presence of your shining star in the sky continue to fulfill our hearts and souls with your love, confidence, and reassurance.
Love you always and forever. Amor nuestro!
