Marie Madeleine Walker's Obituary
Marie Madeleine Chentil Walker was born on October 15, 1930 to the late Marie Claudine Chentil Helies in Brest, France. She was the youngest of four children of whom all preceded her in death. She received her formal education in Brest, France and at the age of 16 moved to Paris, France. Several years later while still living in Paris she was blessed to have a daughter Isabelle Francoise Chentil. Marie worked in several café’s perfecting her great cooking skills. While working at the “french fry” counter of a café in Paris popular among U.S. service men, she met her future husband Leon Walker who was an Airman in the United States Air Force. Leon and Marie were united in Holy Matrimony in Paris, France on August 22nd, 1959. They have three devoted children whom as parents they adored, cherished and loved dearly.In 1961 Leon’s new tour of duty would move him, his wife Marie and their two children, Isabelle and Charley to New Mexico, where their next child Addie would be born. While stationed and living in New Mexico, Marie traveled to El Paso, Texas to be sworn in as an American Citizen. Marie was very proud to call Texas her home state. Marie would spend the next 15 years traveling abroad and throughout the United States supporting her husband’s military service tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force.Marie was one who loved to travel and met many friends along the way. Upon retiring from the United States Air Force, Leon and Marie would move to San Diego, California in June 1975 where they united with Calvary Baptist Church. Marie would later be baptized by the late Pastor, Dr. S.M. Lockridge. This devoted Christian couple eventually moved their membership to Bethel AME Church of San Diego, serving under Sr. Pastor, Dr. C. Dennis Williams.Marie was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, nana, great-grandmother, sister, auntie and friend to all that knew her. Marie was the type of person that would literally “give her last” to help someone else in need she lived a selfless life of humility serving others and giving of her time. Marie was blessed with a green thumb and you could always find her in her gardens pulling weeds, planting and pruning her plants and flowers. Marie was just as talented in the kitchen as well and loved to cook for her husband, children and grandchildren or anyone who had an appetite. Leon and Marie were long time season ticket holders of both the San Diego Chargers and Padres. It was no secret that Marie loved Tony Gwynn and her Padres. She enjoyed riding the San Diego Trolley into downtown to attend Padre games at Petco Park. Marie was a dedicated Christian woman loved by all that knew her. Marie met so many people during her lifetime that she will truly be missed by all who either knew her or was touched by her.On Tuesday, February 21, 2017 God called Marie from her earthly home to her heavenly home. She leaves to cherish the many memories to: daughter Isabelle F. Chentil of Tucker, Georgia; Son Charles D. Walker (Tanya) of Hoover, Alabama; daughter Addie M.W. Jackson (Rev. Andre) of Corinth, Texas; brother-in-law’s, Rev. Harrison Walker (Lois); Joe Walker (Evelyn) both from Hamilton, Alabama: George Walker (Debby) of Chula Vista, California; son-in-law Robert Boer (Donna) Ocala, Florida ; God-Daughter Charlotte C. Smith, Chula Vista, California; Six grandchildren(Nathan, Kia, Andréia, André Jr, Kristoff, Sonette), three great-grandchildren (Elizabeth, Jacob and Charlie) and a host of relatives, friends and extended family both in the United States and in France—too numerous to name but not forgotten.The family of Marie Walker acknowledges with gratefulness each act of kindness and every expression of sympathy shown during their time of bereavement.
