She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Her family was most important to her. She is survived by her four children; José, Luiza, Rita, and Stenio and by her ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Her husband, Nelson Pereira, preceded her in passing.
Born August 3rd, 1933 in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil where she lived until she married Nelson da Costa Pereira and moved to Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. She had three children. She was Brazilian to the core. In 1971 the family immigrated to San Diego, California, United States, where her youngest was born. She and her husband lived on and off between Brazil and the States.
Besides caring for her family, she was an artist, an avid reader, and very devout. Marilourdes was an accomplished seamstress and was proud of her work for the Portuguese “Festa do Divino Espirito Santo.” She loved sewing the girls in the family their prom dresses, wedding and bridesmaids dresses, halloween and carnival costumes, and every year Santa and Mrs, Claus costumes during Christmas.
She found the love of painting later in life with Mona Mills guidance she became a prolific painter. She often painted at least one painting a week to express herself. She loved vibrant colors and happy themes.
Her faith in god was evident in everything she did. She always thought of others first. She had strong convictions and was unceremoniously frank. She held a special love for the disadvantaged. She was a founding member of the Brazilian club of San Diego in an effort to build a closer community. She organized charity donations for orphanages in Tijuana and Brazil.
She kept a strong connection with Brazil through her lifeline; Globo. She watched the news, novelas and music programs daily.
She leaves a giant hollow in our lives.
