Marilyn Sue Yell's Obituary
Marilyn’s Life and Legacy
A beautiful gift from God was given to Eugene and Mattie Jo Bray on Tuesday, September 19, 1950 and her name was Marilyn Sue Bray, known by family and friends as Sissy. Marilyn was truly the best of nine children, never causing any trouble or complaining as a child and grew up to be a happy Woman.
Marilyn completed her Elementary, Middle and some High School education from Wichita Kansas Catholic School system. In 1968, she graduated from Wichita Heights High School. Sissy furthered her education and received her Associate Degree of Science from San Diego City College.
Sharing the interest of cars with her oldest Brother, James, Marilyn became a drag race lady. This was unusual for a soft spoken young lady, such as, Marilyn, back in the day, but she thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Eventually, she gave up cars and moved to San Diego, CA with James and their stepfather, Neale Bobo Henderson.
While working at the San Diego Naval Base, Marilyn met the Love of her life, Marvin Vernon Yell. They married on December 24, 1975 and adored their beautiful daughter Pamela Kay. Not only was Marilyn a wife and mother, she was a hard worker who dedicated many years working for Pacific Bell Telephone Company and eventually retired as an Appeals Clerk for the County of San Diego in 2006.
Marilyn was sweet, gentle and respectful. On the other hand, we all knew about her slick tongue when expressing her opinions. She enjoyed baking her delicious cakes, listening to music and running around Town with her daughter, Pamela. She never missed a beat when it came to her grandkids, attending all of her sporting events and activities, no matter the time, place or weather condition. But no one could compete with the love she had for her great-grandchildren.
Once the grandkids were born, Marilyn earned the name “NANA” and she was the best Nana ever; not only for her grandkids but also for any friend or teammate of her grandkids. Nana accepted anyone close to her child and grandkids as her own. She had a heart of gold if you needed her. She treated all kids that she took under her wing the same, expressing her tough love whether you wanted it or not. She was a very special person to many.
On Friday April 17, 2020 Marilyn “Sissy” Yell was summoned home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Eugene and Mattie Jo, her husband, Marvin Vernon Yell and stepparents, Neal Bobo Henderson (Ann) and Mary Maxcine Birch (Donnie).
Holding her memories in their hearts are her daughter Pamela (Declan), 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, her siblings James Eugene, Gloria, Amanda, Carmon and Faye, John Jr., Carlos and Anthony, Vonda, Chere, Neale IV (Sue) Ronald (Pamela), Paul (Karen), Tina, Stephanie (Terry), Gail (Marvin), Monica and Arlington and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
