Marion James Jones' Obituary
Marion “James” Jones was born November 7, 1924 in Fordyce Arkansas to George and Susie Jones. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. As he grew up in the south, he spoke of always having dreams of living out west in California. Shortly after Highschool, he did just that by enlisting in the US Navy where after serving his first 4 years he made a life changing decision. “Deacon” as he was called by his shipmates, decided to make it a career. He rose all the way up to the rank of Master Chief Steward. During his military career he met and married his first wife Evellyn and later married his second wife Molly Gains. He and Molly were married for decades until her death in 2006. In 1974 after a 30 year career and serving in 3 wars, he decided to retire from the military and do what he loved most, handicapping the horse races. Not only did he enoy the challenge of horse racing, he was good at it. In Horse Racing circles he was known as the “King of turf racing”. Jones was known for always looking good. He worked out at Sterns gym 3 times a week well after his 80th birthday and was always well dressed when seen driving around in his green Lincoln Continental. On September 15th the Lord called him home to glory. Know by his Grandchildren as “Poppy” or “Grandpa”, Dad leaves behind a wonderful legacy. He was blessed to have 8 children Marilyn, Jamie aka Vicky, Lenon, Lucretia, Steve, Lydia, Randy and Jamie. He was also blessed with a host og Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren as well as extended family and friends.
