Mary J. Atkinson's Obituary
Mary Jessamine Atkinson went to sleep in death on January 26, 2010. Mary was born on August 17, 1927 in the Panama Canal Zone to Zedekiah and Louise Henry. Mary migrated to the United States in 1959 and lived in Portland, Maine where she lived and worked for many years. She eventually moved to Brooklyn New York and settled down there. Mary worked at Lutheran Medical Center for many years as a Dietary Assistant where she was a valued employee and loved by many friends. She eventually retired and began her career of many travels. Mary was well known for her love of beautiful clothes, stylish shoes, and sparkling jewelry. She loved to sing and would always dance when she heard Latin music; this continued even when she became bound to her wheelchair. She was viewed as a great sister, mother, and grandmother. One of her great joys was taking cruises and traveling with her children. She valued life and lived it to the full. None of us will ever forget her great sense of humor, wittiness, and all her little sayings that we’ll keep close to our hearts. Her blessings were many. One of those was she became to be the Matriarch of 5 generations. She is survived by her only daughter, Vilma J. Scott-Davis and her husband Mattison, of San Diego, CA, her eldest son, Ruperto R. Henry and his wife Patricia, of Brooklyn, NY, and her youngest son Rafael B. Atkinson and his wife Storm, of San Diego, CA. In addition to her children Mary is survived by her sisters, Ella May Dickerson and her husband Jerome, Beatrice Moore, Daisy Porter, Doris Robinson, and Carol Davis, 2 aunts, 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, friends, and acquaintances.Mary will be missed by us all and we look forward to seeing her again, happy, healthy, and full of joy in the promised Paradise. Arrangements under the direction of Greenwood Mortuary, San Diego, CA.
