Mary E. Jones' Obituary
Tribute to a Life Well-Lived
Mary Elizabeth Wiley-Jones was born April 9, 1941 in Wichita Fall, Texas, to Luther and Irene Wiley. As a child, she stated, ‘I had the best.” She was an outgoing person, always willing to help others as needed. Mary was affectionately nicknamed by relatives and friend, Liz or Lizard J.
She attended Booker T. Washington Elementary, Junior and Senior High Schools in Wichita Falls, Texas. After high school, she married and moved to Des Monies, Iowa with her husband. To this union, five children were born. She moved to California for better opportunities in education for her children and herself.
In 1968, she enrolled at Lincoln Adult School and finished her eleventh and twelfth grade requirements. She graduated in June 1970 and completed some college classes. This same year, she was hired at San Diego Unified School District’s Adult Division. In 1974 it became the San Diego Community College District, where she retired in December 2004 with 33 years of dedicated service. Her intent was always to see that her children got a good academic and life skills education.
Preceding her in death were: her parents, Luther and Irene Wiley; one brother, Johnny Lee Lenox; two sisters, Almarie Jones and Ceola Mae Berry; grandparents, Tom and Harriet Traxler; and grandson, Ronald Robinson, Jr.
Later in life, her son, Kevin introduced her to the one church of the Bible, the church of Christ. She leaves her children to continue in the faith for the one church, one Lord, one Holy Spirit.
Leaving to cherish her memory are –
