Mary Elizabeth Nixon-Noel
Mary Elizabeth Noel was born April 1st, 1940, in Laurel Mississippi to Dan and Ella Mae Nixon. Mary's family moved to Fresno California when she was seven years of age. There she received her formal education in the Fresno school district. Mary and her family were members of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she served as a junior usher. At an early age she received Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized. Mary enjoyed helping others. She began her career in the nursing field as a public health nurse for the elderly for several years. In 1974, Mary relocated to San Diego, California and began her career in food service management at the local college; San Diego City College, where she loved taking part in educating and providing for those seeking higher level education. Mary retired from San Diego City College after 22 years of faithful service to care for her ailing father.
Some of Mary's hobbies were sewing, interior decorating, bowling, dancing and of course cooking just to name a few. Mary enjoyed the company of family and genuine people she called friends. She possessed a heart of gold, always seeking to help others especially those in need. She provided countless hours of volunteer work feeding and clothing the homeless and disadvantaged residents within the community of San Diego and the surrounding areas. Mary was a member of Pilgrim progressive Baptist Church where she served under the leadership of the late Reverend Marvin C. Hines. Upon the passing of Reverend Hines, she served under the leadership of the late Reverend Joseph Foxworth Sr. In the latter years Mary relocated her membership to New Hope Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Robert E. Houston Sr. Mary was also a member of Ada B. Cleveland Chapter #71 Order of the Eastern Star P.H.R.A
Mary passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at 10:48 pm surrounded by her loved ones.
Preceding her in death are her first husband Lee K. Finley, her parents Dan and Ella Mae Nixon, her second husband Raymond L. Noel, her brother Rufus Nixon, Sister-In-Law Emma Nixon, her Brother-In- Law Uzell Stevenson, Sister Johnnie Mae Stevenson, and her brother James (Jake) Nixon.
Mary Elizabeth Noel leaves behind to cherish her memories 3 wonderful children: son Cornell L. Finley of San Diego CA, son Danny D. Barnes (Nonie) of Hephzibah GA. and daughter Chimene L. Page of San Diego CA. Sister-in-law Jackie Nixon of Fresno CA. 8 Grandchildren Steven D. Barnes (Anissa) of Phoenix Arizona, Keithin L. Page of San Diego CA, Chartzel L. Finley of San Diego CA, Tishana C. Thompson (Armand) of Gilbert AZ, Demariee D. Page of San Diego CA, Taylor O. Farr of Hephzibah GA, Johnathan I. Barnes of Hephzibah GA, Aaron I. Barnes of Hephzibah GA, Cheyenne Darnell of San Marcos, 8 Great-grandchildren (1 on the way (Steven & Anissa)) Kamryn Page of San Diego CA, Amaya D. Barnes of Hephzibah GA, Amir J. Thompson of Gilbert AZ, Aliyah H. Barnes of Hephzibah GA, Antonio J. Thompson of Gilbert AZ, Jadore J. (Farr) Dorsey of Hephzibah GA, Kamari K. Page of San Diego CA, Azaire J. Mary also had 3 bonus children she took in as her own: Monica Harris of San
Diego CA, Marsha Jamerson of Cleveland OH. Keith Patrick (deceased) and a host of other relatives and friends.
