MARY ANNA (WOSNAK) HILLEntered Rest April 22, 2014.Mary was born to Walter and Mary Wosnak July 15, 1930, in Jersey City, New Jersey. She attended Jersey City Teachers College, after high school, receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She began her teaching career in San Diego, California at Darnall Elementary School. Mary met her lifelong husband, Dudley Lee Hill, at an USO dance in San Diego, California. They married at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, El Cajon, California on December 22, 1956. As a Navy wife, Mary lived in San Diego, California, Honolulu, Hawaii, Great Lakes, Illinois, Jacksonville, Florida, Norfolk, Virginia, Boston, Massachusetts, Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Salem, New Hampshire and Spring Valley, California. Before and after Lee’s retirement from the Navy, Lee and Mary spent happy times traveling around the country, exploring, rock collecting and visiting friends and relatives in their travel trailer. They actually camped in 49 of our 50 states. They eventually bought a house in Amity, Oregon, to be near Lee’s mother who was in poor health. This became their home base, as they continued a “snowbird’s” lifestyle traveling south during the winter, returning to Amity in spring. Mary was a meticulous record keeper, and would journal their travels, so they could stay at their favorite parks and stops along their way, and participate in various activities that were scheduled. They were members of B.S.A., Braids & Braves Square Dancers of McMinnville, OR, Order of the Eastern Star in Salem, NH, and Sheridan, OR.Mary also volunteered at Willamette Valley Medical Center, McMinnville, OR, and Navy Wives Club in Norfolk, VA, and was a member of Air Force Mother’s Club, in San Diego, CA.Mary moved to McMinnville, OR, after Lee died in 2001, and lived with her daughter and son-in-law. She continued with her lifelong hobbies of writing letters and cards, (never forgetting someone’s birthday), reading, sewing and craftwork, adding to her zebra collection, and keeping her rose bushes healthy and happy. She also loved playing board & card games, Scrabble, in particular, and it was rare for someone else to win that game! She enjoyed her children and grandchildren and took great pleasure in being involved in family activities and events. Mary is survived by her 3 children: Son, Michale (& Angie) Hill of Vacaville, CA; Daughter, Marsha (& Gene) Restorff of McMinnville, OR; Son, Murray (& Elizabeth) Hill of Amity, OR; and four granddaughters, Jennifer Villarreal, Alyssa Hill, Amy Hill and Kaylee (& Dustin) Parsons.
