Mercelita “Mercy” Mendoza Magnifico, 72, of Spring Valley, CA, peacefully entered eternal rest on September 07, 2025 surrounded by her family.
Mercy was born on May 17, 1953, in Olongapo, Philippines, to Josefina and Julian Mendoza. She was the sixth of thirteen children and was a surviving twin, and lovingly nicknamed
“Kambal,” the Tagalog word for twin. Growing up in a large family, Mercy learned early the values of faith, resilience, and togetherness values she carried throughout her life.
On May 1, 1971, she married her beloved husband, Rolando F. Magnifico. For 54 years they shared a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and the enduring strength of family.
Mercy was a devoted wife, an extraordinary mother, and a proud grandmother. She and Rolando raised three children: Richard (Merlie) Magnifico, Sarah Mae (Marvin) Bautista, and Jerald Ray (Kimberly) Magnifico. She welcomed their spouses as her own, wrapping them in the same love and care that she poured into everything she did.
Her heart expanded with every grandchild she held: Blazeden Bautista (26), Khalea
Bautista (21), Angel Mae Magnifico (15), Ryland Magnifico (14), Marley Bautista (13), and Damian Magnifico (7). “Mama,” as she was lovingly called.
Mercy is also survived by her siblings: Magdalaida Sabile, Maria Corazon Formales, Maria Fe Castillo, Claire Sparks, Marietta Angeles, Josefino Mendoza, Julian Mendoza, Raquel Mendoza, Eden Mendoza, Luzette MacDonald, and Johnny Mendoza. She was preceded in death by her parents, Josefina and Julian Mendoza, eldest sister DeoLinda.
Known for her deep Christian Faith, Mercy leaned on God in all seasons of life. She was a member of First Christian Church of National City for over 30 years. She taught her family
the power of prayer, the importance of forgiveness, and the strength of surrender. Her gentle spirit, unwavering resilience, and boundless love touched countless lives, both within her family and beyond.
She worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant for 27 years, and after her retirement, she
devoted herself to caring for her grandchildren. She loved doing school drop-offs and pickups, always making sure they were well fed and cared for. Mercy was also an amazing cook, and her meals brought comfort and joy to her family.
Mercy’s legacy is one of love, strength, and faith a legacy that will live on through her
children, grandchildren, siblings, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a loving mother and welcomed strangers like family.
Her smile and laughter contagious and distinct, you can definitely tell when she was
laughing.
Mercy’s laughter, her love, and her faith will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her light does not fade, it shines on through those she loved most.
