Miguel A. Calles aka "Giggles"'s Obituary
Miguel A. Calles, Jr. a.k.a. “Giggles” passed away at the age of 35 on March 18, 2017, in San Diego. Miguel was born on January 14, 1982 in San Diego, California to Miguel Calles, Sr. and Mercedes Calles. He grew up with with two sisters, Stella and Patty, and he spent much of his childhood playing sports, chasing his pet chickens, dancing in his mother’s high heels, watching movies with his sisters, and enjoying life by smiling and laughing. He graduated from Monte Vista High School and was a stellar athlete in wrestling, lacrosse, and football. His memorable time was making it to CIF Playoffs his senior year with his fellow Monarchs. He attended Santa Barbara Community College for a few years to obtain an AA in Psychology. He worked as a personal trainer as well as a bouncer and bar back during his Santa Barbara years. It was his time in Santa Barbara that opened his eyes to a new world that was now his home. He would volunteer his time to the Santa Barbara LGBT Community. He moved back to San Diego to work in the food and bar industry with Mo’s Universe and continued his passion of volunteering with the San Diego LGBT community. He helped the Hillcrest community raise funds for the Pride Flag Pole by organizing the High Heel Race. You can see all it’s glory flying proudly on the cross streets of Normal Street and University Avenue. Miguel was incredibly passionate and proud of his niece, Elida, always encouraging her to do well in school and to reach for the stars. He is survived by his parents, Miguel Calles, Sr., Mercedes Calles, his two older sisters, Estella Calles and Patricia Calles, and his niece Elida Calles.
