Minnie S. Bradley's Obituary
Minnie Bradley was born on March 5, 1914 to Joshua Armstrong Sr. and Cora Daniel Armstrong Moore in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Minnie was the oldest of seven children Emmett Armstrong, Vastie Armstrong, Ruth Armstrong, Joseph Armstrong, Mildred Armstrong Watson and Joshua Armstrong Jr.Minnie grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas and during that time families had to pay to send their children to school so at age 12 Minnie’s parents sent her away to boarding school. She would go to school one year and then work the next. After she finished boarding school she attended Arkansas Baptist high school and Jarvis Christian high school in Little Rock, Arkansas where she graduated. She attended Dunbar College for one year and left to follow her dream to travel and become a professional cook.Minnie’s first job was as a caretaker where she cooked for several families, including doctors and lawyers. Several years later she opened a café in Yuma, Arizona. Minnie also worked for 7 years as a Physical Therapist and before she retired she worked at North Island Naval Air station in San Diego, CA.Minnie’s hobbies and professional affiliations included: raising and racing grey hound dogs; she was a member of the Eastern Stars; Dunbar Alumni Association; and the NAACP. Minnie was very active in her church auxiliary she loved to serve the lord. traveling with them by bus across the country every two years. Minnie also enjoyed gardening spending time with her family, and socializing with her friends and going to church.After 100 years of living, this woman of many talents and words of wisdom went home to be with God on Sunday, January 25, 2015. Her son Bernard Milton Harrod and great grandson Jerome Allen Jr. preceded her in death.
