Modesto T. Calugay Sr.'s Obituary
Modesto Torio Calugay Sr. passed away at the age of 73 in San Diego, California on January 22nd, 2019. He was born as Francisco Calugay Jr. on December 23rd, 1945 to Francisco Calugay Sr. and Julita Torio in Bugallon, Pangasinan, Philippines. He was the youngest of their 5 children. He married Tessie on October 14th, 1969 in Angeles City, Philippines. Modesto spent a career in the U.S. Navy for 20 years (1968 – 1989), finishing as Chief Petty Officer. He was awarded several medals for his service in the Vietnam war. After retiring from the Navy, Modesto worked as a self-employed Barber. He was a regular parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Mr. Calugay was a hard working man with high energy and a positive attitude. He had high integrity and was compassionate to others. He loved spending time with his family, cooking, swimming, and listening to country music. He is survived by his wife, Tessie Calugay; his siblings, Rose Calugay Lumibao, and Alfred Calugay; his children, Marietta Tom (Robert), and Modesto Calugay Jr. (Vanessa); and his grandchildren, Jacob, Matthew, Catherine, and Tayvon.The family will be having a service for him at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
