Nancy Lou Gossett Easler's Obituary
Our sweet, loving, funny Mother peacefully passed on the evening of July 4th, 2023. Nancy was born in Pensacola, Florida on August 24th, 1926, to Orien Pratt and Lula May (Roy) Gossett. She spent her formative years in Pensacola, San Diego and on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Her life was changed dramatically at the age of 15, when her beloved island was bombed on Dec. 7, 1941. For the remainder of her life, the bombing of Pearl Harbor impacted her. Her family had to evacuate and were eventually relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, where she graduated from high school.
In her late teens, the Navy transferred her family back to San Diego. In 1948, while at a Naval dinner with her parents, she met Ray C. Easler. They were married in San Diego on January 28, 1950. Together they had four children and raised their family in Tennessee, Hawaii, Rhode Island and settling in California in 1963.
Mother worked as a secretary prior to her first child’s birth. Then, spent her life in making a wonderful and loving home for her family. She was funny, fun, smart, happy, friendly, and a fabulous friend to all. She possessed a gift and a love for languages, speaking both French and German, and English grammar was very important to her. Additionally, she was a great care taker of her children when they were ill and her husband for 23 years, following a massive stroke, at age 58. This served as a great example to her children, who helped care for her as she aged.
Nancy was a lifelong and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and spent many years teaching the Primary children about Jesus Christ.
Nancy is survived by her children, Ray Easler, N Louise Sill (David), Mary Walter (Philip), and John Easler (Diana), 16 grand children and many great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Ray, daughter-in-law Lynette, her parents and four younger siblings (Billy, Orien, Libby and Danny).
We wish to thank mom’s caretaker Leticia, for many years of tireless service, and we'd also like to thank Crown Care Hospice for their tender care for the last two years.
A private family graveside sefvice will be held in her honor, as she is laid to rest next to her dear husband.
