Nellie Buckley's Obituary
Nellie Buckley, whose endless love for the Lord was only matched by the love she lavished upon her family and friends, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Feb. 11, 2019. She was 84. Nellie Buckley was born in San Diego on March 5, 1934, the only daughter of Anita Alvarado and Jose Hermosillo. Raised in Old Town, San Diego, Nellie took after her mother, developing a deep, gratifying belief in God as an Evangelical Christian. Nellie attended Fremont Elementary School and Pacific Beach Junior High School. At age 18, Nellie married Raymond Buckley. Together they had six children, three boys and three girls. The first child was born in 1953 and the last one in 1965. Nellie never remarried after Raymond passed away in 1983, but she always kept an open heart, smiling warmly whenever a discussion turned to romance, her love interests or how she was naturally prone to flirt. Nellie worked as a homemaker when her children were young and in home healthcare when they were grown. In her final years, Nellie suffered from Parkinson’s disease. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, ex-husband and son Michael Buckley. She is survived by her daughters Patricia Sandoval, Geraldine Montoya and Sharon Savas; sons Raymond Buckley Jr. and Andrew Buckley; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Faith was always a guiding light in Nellie’s life. She prayed and read her Bible as much as she could. The pages of her well-read Bible were tattered, her favorite verses highlighted, underlined and annotated. She went to church, sang Christian songs and watched Christian cable TV. She read books about Christianity and books by Christian authors. She lived a full life, eternally grateful for the grace of God. One of her favorite Bible verses was Philippians 4: 6-7, “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made know unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.”The family will be having a Memorial Service at Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary.
