Noh Thammarath's Obituary
Noh Thammarath was born in Jiang Long, Muang Phong, Sipsongpanna on May 25, 1936 to Inh and Boua. Noh was the oldest of five children.
When he was a young child, he was ordained as a monk or bout as Cho for 4 years and came back home to support his parents in the rice fields.
In 1958, Noh and his family fled to Muang Sing when the Cultural Revolution reached Sipsongpanna, seizing property and money, and sending people to reeducation.
In 1975, he married On and in 1977, they fled Laos to live in Ban Thong Refugee Camp in Chiang Rai, Thailand until they were sponsored by the Thammavong Family to resettle in San Diego in 1980.
In San Diego, they started to build a home and community for their family in the Market Street area. In 1987, they moved with Mai Oun Xon's Family to the Skyline area and eventually bought their own home around the corner.
Noh worked at Toppan West with many people in the community for almost 20 years. He lived independently, gardened, and became an elder in our community until he needed to go to the ER for a hernia in mid-April and moved in with his grandson James and his family. While living with them, we were able to celebrate his 90th birthday. On June 1, he went to the ER again and was diagnosed with late stage cancer and returned home for hospice care until he passed on July 1, 2026 surrounded by his family.
Noh is survived by his 2 sisters, 7 children, 11 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
