DREYER, Norma Davis' Obituary
Norma Davis Dreyer 02/01/1934 – 10/13/2025
Norma Davis Dreyer passed away peacefully in her sleep early morning 13 October 2025. Norma was born Norma Davis Jones in Honolulu, Hawaii on 1 February 1934. Her father was a Navy submarine repairman stationed there. Still an infant, her family returned to their home in San Diego, California. She began her lifelong attendance at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in 1938. The family did move to New London, Connecticut for a few years before her father finished his duty with the Navy and took a public works job back in San Diego. Norma spoke of fond memories with her older sister, Betty Ann singing, playing and going to the movies. Norma attended Our Lady of Peace Academy from grade school through high school, where she was the class president in her senior year. She then attended San Diego State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in education and proceeded to obtain her teaching credentials. She met the love of her life, Donald Max Dreyer at an SDSU event. The two were married on 26 August 1955, in the chapel at All Saints’. They enjoyed a few years as a young couple on their own before their first child, Samuel Lewis was born in 1959. Soon thereafter, Norma quit her teaching job to raise the new family. Joseph Edward was born in 1962. Don and Norma moved to their La Mesa home in 1963, where they spent the rest of their lives together. In 1967, Donald George was born completing the family. When George was in high school, Norma went back to work as a substitute teacher. She did that for a few years, then secured a teaching position at All Saints’ Episcopal Day School. She also spent a few years working for Value Land and was the main “project person”. Many of her craftwork projects hung on the walls of the store. For many years she was on the Altar Guild at All Saints’ and eventually led the guild. She was also a faithful member of the Society of Mary at the church. Norma had positive influence on everyone in her life. She always had time to listen to our
stories and enjoyed cheering on all our endeavors. Her love of music inspired all three of her sons to a lifetime of musical performance and enjoyment. She always enjoyed
watching and hearing our latest musical efforts. She particularly enjoyed the family
Christmas Eve playing and singing of Christmas Carols. Her cheery smile and uplifting attitude will surely be missed. However, we can take comfort in knowing she is still watching and encouraging us from Heaven. Her husband, Don, passed away in 2001. Norma is survived by her three sons, Sam, Joe and his wife Tamela, and George and
his wife Kathryn, and five grandchildren, Marie and her husband Eric, Kenneth, Bryn, Hunter and Eva.
