Norma Lorraine Peskin's Obituary
Norma Goldberger Peskin was born on September 25, 1924 in San Leandro, California. She lived in Oakland California until 1936, she later relocated and moved to San Diego with her mother and father at the age of 11. Norma went to Roosevelt Junior High and graduated in 1939, She then went to San Diego High and Hoover High School where she graduated class of 1942. She later meet the love of her life Morton B. Peskin and they married at the US Grant Hotel on April 18th 1948. Out of there union they were blessed with four children. Sadly Norma lost her first child a baby girl at birth. Morton her husband was in the Air Force and Norma was able to experience the life of a military wife, she joined him in Morocco North Africa with her 3 children Randy Lee who was 3 years old at the time, Joyce was 2 years old, and Harold was 9 months old. Morton decided to make the Air Force his career but later came back to San Diego in 1962 where they both joined temple Emmanuel with Rabbi Morton Cohen. Norma was an outstanding volunteer helping with Oneg Shaboits and the gift shop, and she was the chairperson. Norma later became president of the sisterhood and she joined City of Hope Chapter in San Diego and held presidency for 9 years, keeping the oldest chapter #0004 alive. Norma was a dedicated volunteer at the Hebrew Home running the gift shop for many years and a member of the R.S.V.P. Program. She volunteered at the College Ave senior center for 15 years. Norma was an avid Bridge Player and Mah-Jong player. She loved people and had many wonderful friends. She is pre-deceded by her husband Morton and her son Randy. The last three years Norma resided at Grossmont Gardens where she will be missed by many friends. Norma passed away peacefully on November 5, 2016 at the age of 92 years. Services will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 11:00am in the Garden Chapel. She will be laid to rest Privately at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with her late Husband Morton at a later time. Norma lived life to the fullest and always “Her Way”. Norma is survived by her daughter Joyce (husband Tom) and her son Harold (wife Ana), her sister Lori and three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
