Oveva Lorrene Ellison's Obituary
Oveva Lorrene Ellison
August 30, 1919 – November 19, 2020, Spring Valley, CA.
Oveva passed peacefully in her sleep late in the evening of November 19, 2020. She was 101 years age, still spunky and vibrant until a few weeks before her passing. She was ready to go home. Oveva was born in Freeman, Missouri to parents, Maude and Charles Hendren.
Oveva was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Leila Hendren, her brother Keith Hendren, her first husband Aubrey Hays, her second husband William Ellison, and her son Ted Hays. Oveva is survived by her daughter Lois Baldi, son Tom Hays, stepdaughter Dottie Reed, stepson Bill Ellison, Jr., six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.
Oveva met her first husband, Aubrey Hays in high school and they married after she graduated. They were married for 43 years when he passed of lung cancer in 1981. She remained single for seven years before meeting her second husband, Bill Ellison while attending First Baptist Church Clairemont.
Oveva was loved by so many people and will be fondly remembered for her wit; her dedication to her faith, her generosity, her beautiful crouched Afghans, and her spunk. Oveva played pool several times a week at Mt. Miguel and usually won most of the games she played, and soon had a reputation of being a ‘pool shark’. She continued playing up until February 2020 but had to quit due to her heart and failing eyesight. On her 100th birthday, she received a monogrammed pool cue from her stepdaughter, Dottie Reed. She loved that pool cue and was very proud she could still play.
Burial services will be held at Greenwood Mortuary on Friday, December 4, 2020 at 12 noon. A Celebration of Life will take place in 2021. For donations please send amount to Covenant Living at Mt. Miguel, Benevolent Fund, 325 Kempton St., Spring Valley, CA 91977. Flowers to be sent to Greenwood Mortuary.
