Patricia A. Carey's Obituary
Patricia was born on 22 July, 1934 in Union County, Iowa to Mr & Mrs Irvin Thomas Cannon. Her mother’s maiden name was Cleo Pearl Ridout. Patricia’s father passed away when she was 15 years old and she lost her mother in the nineteen seventies. Patricia was the youngest of seven children. Her sister and five brothers all preceded her in death.In her early years, she resided in Creston, Iowa, graduating from Creston High School in 1952. Upon graduation she married Merle Jorgensen and moved to the San Diego, California area where Merle and Patricia raised their three children.Patricia’s first marriage ended in 1978 and in 1979, She met and married Wayne T. (Duke) Carey. During over 36 years of marriage, Patricia became Step-Mom to Duke’s three daughters and “Grandma Patty” to his nine grandchildren.She was preceded in death by sons Thomas Wayne Jorgensen and Christian Lee Jorgensen of San Diego and by stepdaughter Rhonda Lynne Phillips of Auburn, CA.She is survived by: Daughter Sherry Smith of Bonita, CA Stepdaughters Deborah Beal of Pilot Hill, CA and Deena Lea Trouten of Mountain Home ID Grandchildren Brian, Sean and Tyler Smith Jolene and Kristy Jorgensenand Duke’s Jessica and Jamie Phillips Grandchildren Ryan, Lindsey and Jaycee Beal Christina, David, Danica, and Darla TroutenAs well as Five Great-Grandchildren and Two Great-Great GrandchildrenPatricia was an active member of Bethany Assembly of God for over twenty-seven years, serving as the Women’s Ministry President for twenty years. During her tenure as president, the ministry raised over one hundred thousand dollars for a variety of missions projects.Patricia was a supporter of numerous charities, not the least of which was Teen Challenge of San Diego serving on the Ladies Guild and providing monetary support for many years. She exhibited her love for the ministry and endeared herself to both students and staff by becoming the “Cookie Lady”. Over a ten year period, she personally baked ten to twelve dozen cookies every week which amounted to over fifty thousand cookies provided.Patricia supported other worthwhile charities including but not limited to: Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Latin America Child Care and Care House of San Diego because of her love for children. San Diego Humane Society because of her love for animals. Disabled American Veterans and the Wounded Warrior Project because of her concern over veterans. And since she had such a heart for the homeless, any charity providing for the needs of the homeless.Asked to come up with single words to describe Patricia, family and friends almost always include: Loving, Thoughtful, Generous, Faithful, Helpful, Trustworthy, Friendly, Courteous and Kind.Patricia loved music, especially gospel music and some of the traditional church hymns. She had an extensive collection of Gaither videos and tapes and was always delighted to purchase CDs when musicians ministered at her church or at several concerts which she attended.Patricia loved travelling. She and her husband were fortunate to have been able to travel to many parts of the country by motorhome which she thoroughly enjoyed. While domestic travel was wonderful, perhaps the highlight of her travel was a 2008 trip to Jordan and Israel where she was blessed to “walk where Jesus walked”NOW SHE IS WALKING WITH THE KING
