BENNER, Paula A.'s Obituary
The one and only, Paula Ann Benner, passed away peacefully on October 28th surrounded by
loved ones.
Paula was born on April 12, 1949 to Paul and Betty (Murphy) Benner, in Washington DC.
In her childhood years, she worked at the family flower shop and was affectionately known as the “Dropout Florist”. She spent her summers crabbing and waterskiing on the Chesapeake Bay at her Grandparents' beach cottage, where she made countless memories.
Paula graduated from Crossland High School in 1967. She left home in 1970 and eventually landed in Chula Vista, CA. This is where she was a phenomenal stay-at-home Mom. After her children grew older, she went back into the workforce and had several different admin jobs, beginning at the City of Chula Vista Credit Union. In 2000, she met her beloved partner, Robert Cooper, and the two settled in National City, CA. Paula retired from Suzuki Musical Instruments
in 2018.
Paula spent her retirement years reading books on the beach, traveling, and making everlasting memories with her children and grandchildren.
Paula was predeceased by her loving parents, Paul & Betty Benner, and her cousin Norman “Mike” Anderson. Paula is survived by her lifetime love, Robert Cooper of National City, CA; her two children, John O’Neill (Shani) of Vinton, VA and Wendy Rudolph (Mark) of Santee, CA; her
grandchildren Kaitlyn (Mason), Jacob, Jayce, Shaye (John), Sheradyn and Jaxon; her great granddaughter Emiline; her sisters Cathleen, Vivian and Virginia and her cousin Robert. Along
with countless nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Paula was the epitome of strength. Throughout her life, she shared many lessons with us; her
final one was a reminder that “It is what it is.” She will be missed deeply by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Silver Strand State Beach on November 16th at 2:00 pm.
Paula’s final place of rest will be the Chesapeake Bay, near the beach cottage that was the heart of so many treasured moments.
