Peggy LaVearn Rainey's Obituary
The beloved mother, our sister, an aunt, cousin, and friend was born December 15,1944, in Fort Smith, AR. She was the fourth child of five children born to Everett E. Rainey andEnora S. Rainey. Peggy accepted the Lord in her life at a young age and was baptized at Fourteenth and T Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in Fort Smith, AR. Pastor, L.C. Dade.
This church was later renamed First COGIC where Peggy’s oldest brother, Supt. Everett L. Rainey is the Pastor.
Peggy began her Education at Howard Elementary and Lincoln High School in Fort Smith, AR. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, OK. She attended and was a choir member at Page Memorial, COGIC Pastor, J.A. Alaman. Peggy moved to Bakersfield, CA, where she joined the church choir at St. Paul COGIC Pastor, Nathaniel E. Duffey, Sr.
She loved to sing, and later became a member in the Golden Voices of Triumph Choir in Bakersfield, CA. While living in San Jose, Peggy obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from San Jose State University in Business and received a full sponsored scholarship. She was a member and
sang in the choir at Prayer Garden COGIC Pastor, Bishop Milton Mathis.
While employed with IBM, she later joined IBM’s Women’s Softball Team. She was a good softball player, which later earned her a Personal Trophy.
After reviewing an attractive promotion to continue working for IBM in Los Angeles, she moved to Gardena, CA. Peggy served as church secretary, choir and member of Jurisdictional at West Angeles, COGIC. Pastor Bishop Charles Blake’s church in Los Angeles, CA.
While living in Gardena, CA, she attended and graduated from Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising San Diego (FIDM) in Los Angeles, CA with Cum Laude honors.
After retiring with IBM with over 15 years of service working as a Legal secretary and in other various capacities, she later worked for the Watts’ Foundation the renown, late Johnny Cochran Law Firm.
After giving birth to her beautiful daughter, Desireé Enora Jordan, and after the passing of Peggy’s dad, Peggy and Desireé decided to move to San Diego, CA to be closer to her San Diego family. Peggy was a very involved and loving mom in any and everything her daughter did. Desireé was her life, joy, and her little princess - now Queen.
While living in San Diego, CA. She became a faithful and active choir member at Faith Chapel COGIC, Pastor, Bishop Roy Dixon. Peggy loved to talk, and had a personality that was glowing and happy. Anyone who met her, loved her. No one was a stranger. Peggy was affiliated with St. Stephens. COGIC, Pastor Bishop George D. McKinney where she held a managerial position.
Peggy was gifted in arts, crafts, and various unique designs. She became known at different churches and organizations as “Mama Rainey” and “Mama Rainey, The Edutainer”, God’s House of Theatre, storytelling, and games. Peggy was also a Recording Artist, Songwriter, and Composer.
Through a dear friend, Peggy and her daughter both joined Christian Life Center of San Diego where Bishop Blair Holloway is the Senior Pastor. She was faithful, and an active member, who loved Bible Study, weekly prayer, church activities and fellowship.
Peggy loved life and embraced it.
On Sunday, July 26, 2020, God quietly called Peggy home to be with Him in Glory. She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett E. Rainey and National Evangelist Enora S. Rainey- Tudman. She leaves to cherish her memories to her Daughter, Desireé E. Jordan, two sisters, Charline Smith, and Barbara J. Verges of San Diego, CA, two brothers, Supt. Everett L. and
Charles L. Rainey of Fort Smith, AR, a host of family members, friends, and fellow laborers for the Lord.
