Mrs. Phyllis Jean Murray's Obituary
Phyllis Jean Murray passed away peacefully on September 16, 2023 at her home at Wesley Palms in Pacific Beach, California. A service is to be held on October 7th, 2023 at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary, 4300 Imperial Ave, San Diego, CA 92113 at the Chapel of Last Supper.
Phyllis was born on December 4, 1932 in Cowley, Kansas, and was adopted by Charles and Alma DeLano from El Dorado, Kansas. Phyllis grew up in El Dorado where she graduated from El Dorado High School in 1950. Phyllis married James “Pat” Murray, her childhood sweetheart in 1951 in El Dorado. They were happily married for 63 years until Pat’s passing. Pat and Phyllis moved to San Diego, California in 1957 and began building apartment complexes, which became their life long careers.
Phyllis was a member of the Loma Unit Sorority, being an active member by holding many rolls within the Sorority. Alongside her husband, Phyllis was very active in her children’s sport activities, never missing a game. With this love of sports, they held season tickets to all the San Diego Professional Sports Teams. Phyllis became a member of the San Diego Yacht Club in 1974. She enjoyed boating on the Paterack, cruising, traveling, and visiting with her family. She dedicated herself to being a terrific wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend. She was admired by many with her self-taught business savvy and attention to detail.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pat. Phyllis is survived by her three children, Jim (Judy), Ron (Bernadette) and Dena (Kurt); grandchildren, Neil, Jeff (Chelsea), TJ (Melanie), Rachel (Sam), Lilly, Breanne, Grant (Juliette), Kylie, Maggie and Chance; her great-grandchildren Daniella, Ryan, Jase, Rawley, RuthAnn, and Riley; brother Cliff, and her nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
