Ramona Marie Miranda's Obituary
Born in Yuma, Arizona, Ramona came from an Arizona pioneer family. Both her paternal and maternal grandparents were ranchers and business leaders in the Tucson and Yuma communities, and active members of the Arizona Pioneer Historical Society. She graduated from Tucson High School and received her BA degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona, and her MS in Pupil Personnel Counseling from San Diego State University. Ramona taught in Lima, Peru where her husband was assigned to an engineering project. Then, they moved to Palo Alto, California, where she worked at the Hoover Institute on the Stanford University campus in the Asian and Political Science Departments. It was at Stanford that she became a member of AAUW – American Association of University Women, an organization in which she remained active until her health started to decline.In the 1960s, Ramona moved to San Diego where she taught at San Miguel Elementary School for 20 years until her retirement. It was during those years that she became involved with the Lemon Grove Teachers Association, and later with the California Retired Teachers Association. Her lifelong commitment to her Catholic connections was very important to her and she was an active member of St. Didacus altar society and enjoyed many of the church activities.The love of her life was her daughter Margot, a special needs woman who currently lives in a Chula Vista residence.
