Raymond Juarez May 11th 2015 I don?t recall when I first met Ray but since we both worked at NASSCO it could have been around 1980. However, we got to know each other professionally when I was assigned as Ship Manager to the LST contract. This required maintenance to be performed on a series of ships of this class during a limited ability (8 to 10 weeks) needless to say the schedule completion dates were the driving factor and could not be missed. The Captains of these ships had additional funds at their disposal and always wanted to get as many addition upgrades to their ships in addition to the work specified in the contract. However, we had to be careful that we did not take on too much extra work such that we did not impact the scheduled completion date. While reviewing the additional work list provided by the Captain on the first ship Ray and I were assigned to I asked Ray?s opinion as to how many of the piping systems modifications he felt we could accomplish on the list and still maintain the schedule. Based on Ray?s in put we were able to accomplish all the additional we had committed to the Captain. This was the start of our everlasting friendship of Ray and I. We worked on at least three or four ships in the LST class and Thanks to Ray we never missed a scheduled completion. As time passed Ray and I both left NASSCO but we remained for ever very dear friends (Ray was born on July 12th 1936 and I was born July 13th 1936). Ray did lots of plumbing work for my family and I over the years (this past Saturday our Grand Daughter was visiting and said she was sorry to hear of Ray?s passing but was so thankful that he fixed the plumbing in my main bathroom) with always the same high level of quality of workmanship we had experienced over the years. Well my dear friend, I will miss kidding you on our birthdays and how I have enjoyed the fun we had over the years, but we will meet again soon. God bless you Ray, Murdoch
