Raymond G. Lerma's Obituary
Raymond Gomez Lerma was born in San Diego, California on December 5th, 1926 to his proud parents Ramon Lerma and Josefa Gomez of Mexico. Raymond, a San Diego native resided there his entire life. He dedicated many years of hard work, working for local companies such as Van Camp Cannery, Nassco, and Western Metal. Raymond eventually moved on from working for those companies and found himself to be a proud handyman, turning his customers into close personal friends. Through his work ethic, he gained customers throughout the county thus gaining more and more favorable working relationships and more importantly gaining more friends. During his early life, he enlisted in the United States Army and was sent to train at Camp Roberts, he was then assigned to the 24th Infantry Division as a driver. Raymond served honorably during WWII in the Philippines and in Japan as a driver, and was often requested by the officer cadre to personally drive them. He was a proud veteran and loved wearing his hats to the VA Hospital in La Jolla where he was treated with respect and admiration. Raymond met the love of his life, Guadalupe Calderon, or as most know her “Lupe”. They married and spent 68 beautiful years together. From their loving union their family grew and they built a life at their home on Thorn Street where they have lived since 1950. Raymond passed away at home surrounded by those he loved, on February 20th, 2019 at the age of 92. He lived a long and full life. Raymond is survived by his wife, Lupe and his four children; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
