Raymond Eugene Root's Obituary
Raymond Eugene Root, age 91, passed away on 19 June 2026, after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa; his son Terry (Linda), their four children (Steven, Christopher, Jonathan, Anna) and eight great-grandchildren (Nadia, Nathan, Daniel, James, Caleb, Micah, Lily, Luke). He is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Audra, and his younger brother Michael. He will be laid to rest next to his First wife Patricia Anne (Knapp) Root at Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary on 15 July 2026 10:00am. Ray grew up in North Park with his parents & brother. After graduating from San Diego High School, he attended Cal Poly, then served a hitch in the United States Air Force working as a jet engine mechanic. During leave from the Air Force, he met & later married San Diego native Patricia Knapp. They were together until Pat’s passing in 2021. After serving in the military, he worked at Convair for the Freedom 7 season, then served in the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for 33 ½ years. Ray’s lifelong passions have been competitive automotive (driving, building, spectating), and photography. His love of people and dedication to family was evident throughout his life, and he will be greatly missed.
