Born on October 27, 1928, Refugio lived through nearly a century of history. She witnessed the world change in countless ways, yet she remained a steady and loving presence for everyone fortunate enough to know her. To friends she was Cuca, but to those who loved her most, she was “Mama Cuca” — a name spoken with deep affection, respect, and gratitude.
