Reginal B. Washington Sr. "Reggie"'s Obituary
On June 27, 1962 in San Diego, California, a beautiful baby boy, Reginal Bernard Washing-ton, was born to Osephine and Earnestine Washington. He was affectionately nicknamed “Fellow” by his father and called by this name by the immediate and extended family, partic-ularly during his early years. The third born of four children, he enjoyed the benefits and faced challenges of being the only son.The family moved to the Skyline Community in 1966 and children attended local public schools. Reggie was most proud of being a Samuel Morse High School Tiger. While attend-ing Morse, he became a celebrated fullback on the Varsity Football Team. “With 8:16 left in the fourth quarter, Tiger fullback Reggie Washington blasted 23 yards up the middle giving Morse possession on Madison’s 49-yard line” (as written by a San Diego Tribune sports re-porter). His final year at Morse, the team took the championship. Reggie continued playing football at San Diego Mesa and Southwestern Community Colleges. He later served as a football coach for a number of years in youth leagues.Reggie was employed by the City of San Diego for more than 20 years and in 2013 joined the City of San Bernardino Water Department as a lead maintenance technician. He was proud of his contribution, enjoyed his work and was a valued member of the team. Co-workers said that he could fix anything and was a joy to work with. He was known to keep them laughing with his sense of humor, making work more enjoyable.Reggie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the New Hope Friendship Bap-tist Church for many years. He was faithful in youth, brotherhood and music ministries. It was there that he first shared his gift of guitar and bass during worship. In later years he be-came the bass player for the Mighty Gospel Revelators of San Diego, where his father sang as one of the lead vocalists. Reggie was ordained and served as a Deacon at the Greater Victory Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor George A. Williams. He continued to serve in this capacity upon his return to New Hope under the leadership of Pastor Robert L. Houston.Family was always a very important part of Reggie’s life. He met and later married Jaquetta Stinson in 1993. From this union six children were added to the family. He was a support-ive father and enjoyed spending time with and raising his seven children. All of the children were very good students and he was very proud of them. After a sudden illness, Reggie quiet-ly and tenderly was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 15, 2018. Preceding him in death were his mother, Mrs. Earnestine Washington and sister Renee Washington. He leaves a blessed legacy which includes his father, Osephine Washing-ton of San Diego, two sons: Reginald B. Washington,Jr. of San Diego (Kaydeese), Giovanni Washington of North Carolina (Thelmy); five daughters: Marie Primmer of Arizona (Dyjon), Victoria Perryman of Irvine, California (Glenn), Alycia Broxton (Kirk) of San Diego, Jennifer Benson of Arizona (Rayonte), Elizabeth Fleming (Melvin) of California City; two sisters: Sandra Harrison of San Diego and Kathy Murrell of Azusa, California, and twelve grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, neph-ews, cousins, friends, colleagues and mothers of his children, Adrianne Howard-Nivens and Jaquetta Stinson.
