Ressie Martin's Obituary
Ressie Martin was the fourth child of six children born to Louise Arnold on May 10th, 1925 in Gould, Arkansas. Her mother passed away when she 6 years old and she was raised by her Uncle Tom Arnold and a sister Willie Mae. She married J.C. Martin and to this union, three children were born. Ressie left Arkansas with her three children and moved to El Centro, CA in 1952, where she lived for 8 years. In 1960 she, along with her three children moved to San Diego, CA, where she joined the New Bethel Baptist Church where the late Rev. L. R. Sanford was the pastor and later Pastor M.K. Wilson. Presently Rev. Curtis L. Moss, Sr. is the pastor. She served as a loyal and faithful member until she became ill and was no longer able to attend.Ressie’s brother T.J. Arnold, sisters Hattie Coleman, Willie Mae Hill, and Velzie Arnold and two grandsons, La Preece Simmons and Sammy Wimberly preceded her in death. She is survived by her children Minnie Wimberly and Charlene Simmons of San Diego, CA and her son, J.C. Martin (Joann) of Kansas City, Kansas; three grandchildren and two great-grandsons. She has one remaining sister, Bettie Montgomery in Pine Buff, Arkansas. Also, special mention, nieces Nazarene Johnson and Bobbie Munn and like a daughter, LouElla Gaston. Ressie enjoyed spending time with family and friends and attending church. She also loved to Garden. On Sunday, September 11, 2016 the Lord decided it was time for Ressie to go. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at Bella Vista Convalescent Home.
