Ricardo P. Sanchez's Obituary
Richard “Dicky” SánchezSunrise: November 13, 1945 Sunset: February 13, 2017The trumpets sounded and the angels sang as Heavens gates once again opened to welcome their newest angel. Our loved one Dicky, as he was known to his family and friends departed from this earth on February 13, 2017 surrounded by his loving family and is now on the highway to heaven.Born in Hemet, California on November 13, 1945 Dicky was the 13 child of Mary Isabel Sánchez. Raised in Imperial Beach, California he enjoyed going to the beach and playing in the wetlands of the South Bay. He found his soul mate and partner for life at the age of 19, when he married his wife of 52 years Gloria Ceseña and settled in National City, California where they raised three beautiful children, Christine Bastidas, Richard Sánchez, and Xsavier Sánchez.A devoted family man; he coached little league baseball and supported his children’s activities in pop warner football, high school and collegiate sports.Dicky enjoyed working outdoors so he started his career in the construction industry becoming a heavy equipment operator at a very young age. He became known as “Rick” to his business associates and was a well respected local businessman, the founder and owner of Rick & Son’s Trucking of Chula Vista, California established in 1979. He was instrumental in the San Diego trucking industry having mentored many owner/operators by helping them establish their own trucking business. His son Xsavier will now carry on the family tradition and keep those trucks rolling.Dicky loved to go camping in his motorhome, just driving up the California coast or visiting his family at the ranch in Mexico. He enjoyed watching old cowboy movies, listening to oldies or watching his son Richard coach the Saints football team. His pride and joy was his daughter Christine who blessed him with his first grand children and was always by his side.He will be remembered as a devoted family man, successful business owner, generous friend and coach, but it was his golden heart and friendly smile that leaves an indelible footprint in thousands of lives. We were fortunate to have him with us for 71 beautiful years but God needed another angel and took him home.He will be missed by all and is survived by his wife Gloria of 52 years, three children, Christine Bastidas, Richard Sánchez (Maria), and Xsavier Sánchez. 7 Grandchildren, Elysa Pomeroy (Joey), Annette Oswald (Will), Zayly Sánchez, Kristiana Sánchez, Alexza Sánchez, Celine Bastidas, and Ricky Sánchez, 5 great grandchildren, Jayden Oswald, Aubrey, Payton, Harper and Baby Pomeroy on the way.One brother David Sánchez (Gloria), two sisters Ruth Ann Sutphin (Forest) and Maria Isabel Kasperek; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, Godchildren, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, 5 sisters and son-in-law, Victor Bastidas. The Sánchez family would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful care provided by Kaiser Permanente San Diego/Los Angeles and Cedar Sinai Hospital. To the devoted staff of physicians, nurses and care givers who were like guardian angels during his time in their care. You rose above and beyond the call of duty, thank you! To all our family and friends who enriched Dicky’s life and prayed for us to find a heart in time, we would like to express our gratitude. We pray God’s blessings upon all of you for your kind and loving prayers and other expressions of concerns and sympathies during this time of bereavement. We are grateful for the strength, sustained support and comfort you have given us. A very special thank you to everyone who contributed their talents and resources in making Dicky’s home going celebration memorable, we love you.
