LACHMAN, Richard Edmund's Obituary
Richard Edmund Lachman
1949-2025
Richard Edmund Lachman passed away in Escondido, California on October 24th, 2025. He was 76 years old. Richard was born at the US Naval Hospital in Annapolis, Maryland in 1949 to Richard and Mabel Lachman, both US Navy and World War II veterans. He was the second of their five children.
Being the child of military parents, Richard’s younger years involved a variety of moves to Naval bases around the country from Port Huenene, California to Arlington Virginia. When his dad retired from the Navy, the family relocated to Redlands, California where Richard completed high school. After high school Richard moved to San Jose, California, and a few years later, he found his way to San Diego, where he made his home for the rest of his life.
In San Diego Richard worked many years as a detailer at Kearny Mesa Dodge and then Mercedes Benz of San Diego. As various health issues presented themselves, Richard met each challenge with courage and grit. Unfortunately, after a diabetes related leg amputation, he went on disability.
Richard was an avid country music fan and a reader of biographies, westerns, and the Bible. He enjoyed television and movies of all genre and especially liked keeping up with the news, weather, and rewatching old westerns. He was a lover of animals, especially dogs.
As his eyesight and overall health deteriorated, being around animals brought Richard the most pleasure. He always perked up when visiting a nearby dog park. He enjoyed watching the dogs frolic and chatting with their owners, many of whom placed their dogs in his lap for cuddling.
Richard leaves behind his brother Gary (San Diego), his sister Sandy and brother-in-law Tiff (Fairbanks, Alaska), his dear friend Lee (San Diego), his wife Alma (El Cajon), niece Jessica (Portland, Oregon), and nephew Patrick (Austin, Texas).
Richard’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Care Team of St. Paul’s PACE, El Cajon and to the staff of Silverado Hospice in Escondido, California who made his final days peaceful.
