Robert E. Chambers Jr.'s Obituary
Robert Edwin Chambers Jr. was born in San Diego to Robert and Carmen Chambers. He was the oldest of two children, his sister Shirley DeWitt preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Mar Vista High School.Bob went into the Electrical Contracting business and in 1974 he founded Select Electric, Inc. which, under his guidance, became the premiere traffic signal business in San Diego. Bob was instrumental in creating a collective bargaining agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to have certified streetlight technicians on jobs and this contract still stands today. He was active in the business community as a member of the National Electrical Contractors Association and the Associated General Contractors as well as serving on the State of California Civil Rights Commission. He retired from the day to day operations of Select Electric in2003 but continued as a consultant to lend his considerable expertise to the company.In 1993 he was introduced to Sharon Yates and they married in 1996. They shared a love of travel and visited many friends and amazing locations around the world. They were married 17 years. Bob had one daughter, LaVonne Cashman, a son-in-law Paul and a 24-year-old grandson Paul. Bob is also survived by his cherished cousins.Bob enjoyed gardening, travel, and sports. He was diligent at keeping in touch with his friends and enjoyed meeting up with them for lunches and dinners. He never forgot a birthday. He and Sharon’s dogs were always a huge source of enjoyment for him. Bob had incredible energy and touched many lives with his generous spirit.
