Jim Richards
I was about 8 years old in 1967ish when Bob Gardner and my dad Jim Richards work together and enjoyed autocross as a common hobby. My dad drove Fiat 124 spider and Bob drove the bug-eyed Sprite with damn near no suspension. I got to ride home with Bob from a local autocross event one night. I jumped at the chance to ride home in that car.
I shared the backseat of that Fiat 124 with a brother 6 years younger and a roll bar. Normally a blast. One rainy night coming home from a Desert race in a storm, I remember we tried driving with top up! I am sure I ruined the frame on that top. It was an Italian Clown car!
Bob was my inspiration for what turned out to be lifetime of joy and prosperity. His shots of my Mom and Dad at a racetrack stayed with me for years as did some fisheye shots of Dads Fiat. I have spent my life chasing great shots. I hope he knows what a great influence he was to others.
My memory of Bob Garner
I wish I could have saved those photos!
