Robert H Luitjens' Obituary
Robert Henry “Bob” Luitjens, 91, of Escondido, California, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2023. He was born on November 22, 1932, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Henry and Lois Luitjens.
He joined the United States Navy in 1955 and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1975. For his service to our country he was awarded more than one dozen medals and commendations for his bravery and leadership including the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was a proud and fiercely loyal veteran who loved his country.
Following his service in the Navy he joined the County of San Diego and worked as an appraiser for 25 years eventually rising to the level of Senior Appraiser.
In retirement Bob raised Arabian horses, enjoyed fly fishing in the Sierras, supported San Diego State University sports, and read western novels.
He is survived by his son Raleigh Luitjens, son Benedict Jones, and granddaughter Corie Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joni Luitjens, who passed away in January 2023. It is evident that he will forever be missed yet never forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace.
