Robert N. Robinson's Obituary
Robert (“Bobby”) Neal Robinson, Sr. was born on February 18, 1951 and was the 9th child born to the union of John and Ethel Robinson in Cincinnati, Ohio. The family later moved to Detroit, Michigan where he received his education through the Detroit, Michigan public school system. While he was growing up, Bobby particularly enjoyed working on cars with his father. He would rather work on the cars while his siblings were out playing, Robert enlisted in the United States Army in September 1967, completing training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Robert later received an Honorable Discharge from the Army. Robert moved to San Diego, California in 1980 where he accepted Christ and served under the pastorate of Bishop John H, Cannon, Sr. at Refuge Temple Apostolic Church. Robert later continued his service to the Lord under Pastor John H. Cannon, Jr. at New Life Gospel Center Church. On October 29, 2010, Robert married his soul mate, Tanja Denise Moss. They were a happy couple: when you saw one, you saw the other. On April 28, 2017, Tanja passed away following a lengthy illness. In his youth, he learned automobile mechanics working side-by-side with his father. He wore many names and many hats: mechanic, handyman, cook, auto detailer, mover and gardener. Bobby was one that always worked with his hands and never said ‘No’ to a project where he could help someone. Just a few short weeks before he died, he helped someone with a project in her home and was glad to be of service to her and her family. When Pastor needed help with something at the Church, his response was, “What time to you need me there, Pastor?” Whatever hat he wore, he wore it well. Those that knew Robert knew that he wore many hats, not only while he was working, but when he was dressed up as well! Robert was a friend to so many and was lovingly referred to as Dad, Uncle Bobby, Bro. Robinson, Bro. Bobby, Uncle Rob and Robert. Bobby became ill in March, 2019 and succumbed to his illness a short time later. During his final few weeks, he talked to his Savior, his Pastor and wife, his brother, James, his sister-in-law, Sylvia and a few other family members and friends. On June 4, 2019, at 6:05 am, Bobby quietly left us. We love you, Bobby and we miss you very much! Robert was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel Robinson; six sisters Dorothy, Evelyn, Edith, Benilee, Jeanette and John Edna Smith; Those that cherish his memory are 2 daughters, Ingrid and Gwendolyn; 3 sons, Michael, Robert, Jr. and James; 14 grandchildren; his loving and devoted sister and brother, Lavinia Hugle and James Robinson (Sylvia) as well as a host of nieces and nephews, a special aunt, Mary Harkins, 2 honorary mothers, the late Mother Naomi A. Cannon and Mother Hazel M. Little; Brenda Monroe, and a friend, Michael Lamar.
