Roberto Varela's Obituary
Roberto G. Varela was born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico on April 17, 1936, to his parents, Manuel Varela Escobedo and Aurora Gurrola Varela. His family moved to Tijuana, B.C. where he grew up with his siblings, Manuel, Aurora, Elvira and Enrique.
On September 23, 1955, he married his one true love, Catalina Acosta. Their beautiful and fruitful marriage would last 59 years. They had seven children, Roberto (Bobby), Catalina, Marisela (Mari), Silvia, Rosario (Chayito), Arturo and Gloria. And the family kept growing with 12 grandchildren, Karla, Claudette, Joan Roberto, Marla, Cesar, Marietta, Marco Antonio (Marquito), Paola, Andrew, Catalina (Tita), Kasie and Emilio. Then came more joy with 13 great-grandchildren to embrace and love; Lexi, Lehi, Caelan, Julissa, Kiana, JQ, Garek, Karina, Alexandra, Aram, Marcello, Olivia and Mila.
He started working at a very early age to provide for a better life. He took pride in hard work, and it was reflected in his accomplishments at Golden West Packing Co. For the 50 years he spent there, he was always willing to help and mentor others in any way he could, and he built many life-long friendships over time as well.
His life was defined by his dedication and deep love for his family. He was exemplary in every way, as a man, loving husband, beloved father and endearing abuelito. He showed us how to love unconditionally and supported his family through good and difficult times. He had an amazing spirit, a great sense of humor and a wonderful smile that melted your heart. He taught us to appreciate the joys of life. He also had a great love for baseball and reading. We could always turn to him for his sage and wise advice. He was the firm foundation of our family, and his legacy will continue forever.
With great sorrow to his family, he passed away on September 14, 2024. He will be greatly missed but comfort is taken that he is resting peacefully in the Kingdom of God and reunited with the love of his life and loved ones. His lessons and spirit will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
