Herrera, Rodolfo B's Obituary
Rodolfo Belizar Herrera was born to Antonio A. Herrera, Sr (deceased) and Francisca B. Herrera (deceased) on January 30, 1960 in Manila Philippines. He was the sixth of seven children; his siblings were Roberto (deceased), Teresa (deceased), Patricia, Antonio, Jr., Angelita, and Ester.
Rodolfo was fondly called Rudolf, Rudy, Ody. Rudolf was able to complete 6th grade and could not pursue further studies due to mental illness and intellectual disability, resulting partly from a head injury he suffered when he was 9 years old. Rudolf has had so many impediments and afflictions throughout his life but in spite of all the incredible challenges he faced, he lived the best life he could. He enrolled and participated in various socialization programs (Pegasus, Vision, Casa Pacifica, etc) for individuals with special needs. Rudolf did not learn how to drive but it did not stop him from attending his programs. He took it upon himself to learn how to ride public transportation, learning the trolley and bus routes. He made sure to buy his monthly bus pass timely. Rudolf is remembered for his kind and generous spirit although he does not have regular earnings. He would happily loan the $1 or $5 that people gave him to whoever would need it or he would prepare extra sandwiches for his friends at the program. He was quite an independent and energetic man at some point in his life but later on his many physical ailments started to slow him down especially when he became wheelchair bound. Starting in 2019 he had to have caregivers 24/7. Even in this dire situation, Rudolf still managed to participate daily in his program at Casa Pacifica. Rudolf quietly passed away in his home on Sunday evening, October 6, 2024, due to a long illness. Rudolf was well loved and cared for by his devoted family and caregivers.
Rudolf is survived by his siblings: Patty Capacio, Jun Herrera, Angie Archer, and Ester Herrera; in-laws: Beth Herrera, Boy Capacio, Margie Herrera, Ken Archer; niece Paula Lucas, nephews Vincent Herrera, Eugene Herrera, Josef Capacio, and grand-nephew, Micah Herrera.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to his caring and dedicated caregivers: Ely Manglicmot, Gigi Marcial, Remy Adams, Jannette Lucas, Gerardo Alfaro Sanchez, Kathy Chan, and Vicky Tom. Special thanks to Norma Miranda of Choices for Independent Living (CIL) for going over and beyond in providing care and support for Rudy; to Rudy’s service coordinators at the Regional Center; the staff at UPAC Counseling and Treatment Center; the staff at Casa Pacifica, the staff at Stillwater Post-Acute, the doctors and nurses at Sharp Grossmont Hospital – MICU, Fr. Ghislain and staff at Sharp Hospice and Palliative Care.
