Roy Arthur Houston's Obituary
Roy Arthur Houston, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and loving friend, went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, November 27, 2016. Roy was born to Verl R and Blanche Houston on July 13, 1922 in Greely, Colorado and moved to San Diego, California at the age of three. Roy eventually moved to La Mesa where he attended Grossmont High School. He married his high school sweetheart Betty Nelson on July 25, 1942 and were married until her death in March of 2009. Roy and Betty moved to El Cajon, CA 1961 where he resided until his death. Roy joined the United States Army Air Corps 1942 Where he served until Honorably Discharged as a Sergeant in 1946 Roy worked as a self-employed Building Contractor and Cabinet Maker, building Custom Homes all over San Diego County for over 45 years. He was a great example of a devoted husband, father and friend. Roy was very active in Boy Scouts of America where he brought his energy, strong work ethic and drive to make a positive difference in anything he set out to accomplish. He was also a recipient of the BSA Distinguished Silver Beaver Award. Roy along with wife Betty were founders and charter members of the 42 wheelers a Recreational Vehicle Travel Group made of up of Grossmont High School graduates. Together with Betty they traveled the United States including Alaska in a custom built 5th wheel trailer he constructed. . A member of Sonrise Community Church in Santee, CA he was active in the Soaring Seniors Sunday Class, he also enjoyed designing and constructing sets for the Church’s various productions. Roy was a driven, compassionate, honorable, admired and respected father, grandfather and friend. He is predeceased by wife Betty, two brothers, one sister, one son (Roy Douglas) and survived by his loving daughters Ruthann Tockstein (George) of El Cajon and Bonnie Reppert (Mike) of Del Rio, Texas, son David Houston (Judy) of Riddle, Oregon, Sister Tootsie Flohr of San Diego, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Roy’s smile, grace, sound advice, and unwavering love and devotion to family and friends will always be remembered.A Graveside Service will take place at 9 AM on Thursday, December 8, 2016. A Celebration of Roy’s Life will be held at Sonrise Community Church 8805 Magnolia Ave, Santee, CA on Thursday, December 8, 2016 @ 1 PM.
