Ruth Angel's Obituary
Ruth Angel, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on February 2, 2017. Born Ruth Isabell to Percy, Sr. and Lola Larabee in 1921, she was raised in Williamstown, MA. Ruth had two brothers, Percy Jr. and Frederick. She joined the Navy and served in the Waves for three years during World War II. Her brother Frederick joined the Army, and was tragically killed in action during the War, where he was awarded the purple heart for bravery. After she was honorably discharged from the Service, Ruth worked as a secretary to the president of Williams College, and later moved to San Diego in 1947, where she met John Angel. John was stationed in San Diego and also served in the Navy. The two married in 1949, and in 1951 their son Ronald was born. That same year, the couple moved into their home on Coronado Avenue, where they happily lived together for the next 65 years (with the exception of two years that the family spent on Kwajalein Island, located in the Pacific’s Marshall Islands). Ruth was very active in her local church, and was a mainstay of the annual Home Tour. She enjoyed gardening, and was an active member of the Garden Club. Ruth loved flowers, and her yard was always filled with them. She was happiest spending time with her grandchildren, and most recently her great-grandchildren. She spent many summers with her grandchildren going to the mall, the movies, and especially Sea World, where she would purchase year-round passes. Ruth was very active and always enjoyed the company of others. She was was never afraid to strike up a conversation with anyone, even strangers, and everyone that knew her loved her and thought of her as their grandma too. Ruth understood the importance of family, which meant the world to her. Above all, her pride and joy was her two grandchildren, Glenn and Keith, and her four great-grandchildren, Faith, Jacoby, Cash and Cammy. She is survived by her husband John, her son Ron and his wife Karen, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her nephew Frederick, and her nieces Margaret and Gail.
