Samuel Bert Canada's Obituary
On January 17, 1935, Samuel Bert Canada entered this earthly life as the fifth child of the late Mr. Freeman Canada and Mrs. Willie Edna Henderson Canada of Wetumpka, Alabama. He had five siblings that preceded him in death.Samuel was educated in the Elmore County district and graduated from Elmore County Training School in 1953. He also earned an Associate of Arts in Selected Studies from San Diego City College in June 1981.He accepted Christ at an early age at Tabernacle Baptist Church under the pastorage of Reverend Henry Nelson. Along with his growing passion for the Lord, he adopted a strong love for the guitar.In July of 1953, he joined the United States Navy and served in many areas, one being a chef where his passion for cooking began. Through all his different exciting destinations throughout the world, he ultimately resided in San Diego, California. There he met the love of his life Fannie Mae Jiles Canada (who preceded him in death in 1997) and they were united in holy matrimony in 1967. Shortly after marriage, they moved to Portsmouth, Virginia due to his military obligations. To this union, two children were born Rodrick Earl and Bridget Lavinia.In 1972, they all moved back to California to satisfy his wife’s desire to move closer to her sister, Earline. In 1973, he retired from the United States Navy and became a loyal employee of the United States Postal Service where he served for 26 years.Samuel united with Pilgrim Progressive Baptist Church in 1975 under the pastorage of the late Rev. Marvin C. Hines. He was also a faithful member of the “New Silverlites” under the leadership of the late Bro. and Sis. Howard. Samuel also served faithfully in the brotherhood and the male chorus. Aside from being a faithful servant of the Lord, Samuel had to keep busy. In doing so, he drove for Hertz rent a car for 10 plus years. When he wasn’t working, he would spend time with his family and great grandson who was his pride and joy.Samuel departed this life on Sunday, May 5, 2019 in the early hours resting at his home.He leaves to cherish his memory his two wonderful children Rodrick Earl Canada and Bridget Lavinia Canada both of San Diego. A beautiful granddaughter Kariesha Lashae Canada and a most loved great grandson that he referred to as “pawpaw lil’ man” Kavon Samuel Lamar-Canada. One brother William Andrew Canada (Racine, WI), one sister Dorothy Campbell (Darien, GA), two sisters-in-law Earline White (San Diego, CA) and Bobbie J. Coleman (Homer, Louisiana), a brother-in-law Rev. Ray. D Jiles (Homer, Louisiana), special nieces Donyale Barrett, Wonza Canada, Barbara-Ann and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
