I remember CDR Walker very well, he was our PPC (Patrol Plane Commander) CREW 4 1962-1963. Flying our Lockheed P2V-7S (SP-2H) aircraft, conducting Anti-Submarine Warfare tactical and training missions from our home base at NAF Naha, Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, we had a terrific experience with him when we deployed to USAF Base Misawa, Japan during the “Cuban Missile Crisis” October 1962, tracking Soviet submarines as they traveled to and from Vladivostok, USSR via the Tsugaru Straits between the Japanese Islands of Hokkaido and Honshu. A fine officer and gentleman in the truest traditions of the US Navy, he was a terrific pilot and leader. CDR Sam Walker & his wife Phyllis attended several of our VP-4 Veterans Assn. Reunions. May they both Rest In Peace.
