Sengdao Sirisack's Obituary
Sengdao Sirisack (1932-2022)
Born in 1932, in Nam Bak, a small province in Laos, Sengdao Sirisack was fearless. She rode horses bareback, owned a rifle name Galang, and helped with the family textile business. Most of her young adult life was dictated by war, but she learned to prepare for the next battle, and always planned ahead.
In 1976, Sengdao boarded a plane to America with her family, taking 9 loaves of bread, the clothes on her back, and the shoes on her feet. She settled in Linda, a neighborhood in San Diego, connected with the Lao community and helped to build Wat Lao Buddaharam. Sengdao always appreciated everything, knowing that the small freedoms, a warm meal, time together, education, was not a given. She lived fully, loved deeply, and said, “My life is not difficult. I have everything I need.”
Sengdao loved having her family together, and giving back to the temple. She leaves behind 7 children, 17 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren.
Great-grandma, grandma, mom,
We miss you so much. We will forever remember you – your free, loud laugh.. How much you loved mok pa, and jeow bong. You loved us so fully, unconditionally, and generously. Because of your courage, our family has been afforded all the opportunities of a life in America. Because of your love, we are strong, loyal, and together. Thank you for all of it. Until next time, may you rest peacefully.
Love Always,
Your family
