Reflecting On The Life Of…. Shirley Mae EcholsShirley Mae Echols was born on November 6, 1944 in Salisbury North Carolina to the proud parents of Roger and Minnie Bryant Spriggs. (both deceased) Shirley was blessed to be the oldest sister of 6 siblings,Pastor Robert Spriggs and Clark June Spriggs preceded in her death.In the early 50’s her family moved to Greensboro North Carolina. She attended schools at Mt Zion Elementary and graduated from Dudley High School 1962. In 1964 Shirley married her husband Clyde Echols who preceded her death. From this union 3 beautiful children were born. Kathy Vernell Echols, Phyllis Elizabeth Ann Echols,and James Edward EcholsIn 1964 Shirley and her family moved to San Diego California where she presided until her death. She attended Faith Tabernacle COGIC, under the pastoral ship of the late (Elder James Ewings).Shirley respectfully retired from General Dynamics Electronics after twenty three years of services.She also worked at Bahia Hotel Mission Bay,Kings Liquor Store two different locations,Petco Park and lastly Caretaker of her Brother Lewis.She was well loved by all her coworkers.Her personality was magnetic. Also for many years she was a dedicated member of Shields of Solomon Eastern Star.Shirley was a kind and compassionate person her entire life, who loved to dress sharp with all her gold and diamonds. It was not unusual for her to literally give you the shirt off her back,she always let it be known that she has your back and if you needed anything she responded immediately with “I got it” or don’t worry about it. She was caring and unselfish. She loved her family and her friends unconditionally. ‘Oh’ let us not forget her love for Bingo with her Bingo partners as they went as often as they could, she also loved to travel as she traveled to Paris France,Singapore,Hong Kong and many other places.She always looked forward to the family vacations such as Las vegas or Palm Springs,she loved the big comfortable beds when it was time to go she always said “imma miss my bed”. As well as her favorite recipes of chitlins,greens, stuffing, lemon cake that disappear from the table immediately after the food was blessed.Because of her kindness, Shirley was loved by so many who reciprocated her generosity and loyalty. Shirley leaves a legacy as a wonderful mother, daughter, aunt, sister, friend and “BIG MAMA”Shirley is loved by her children two daughters Kathy, Phyllis, son James, six grandchildren Martell,Myisha,A’mandria,Asa,Adavajay,Dayquasha,Tanisha, her seven greatgrandkids,T’maryia,Martell Jr.,Jayceon,Asa Jr.,LeBron,Galen,Aurora,her sisters Mildred and Neveda, her brothers Lewis and David, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many friends.
