Shirley R Frey's Obituary
Shirley Frey, 89, passed away peacefully in Coeur d’Alene, ID, June 13, 2024.
Born in McAlester, OK, she and her family moved to California when she was a young child. She lived most of her life in the San Diego area, attending Grossmont High School, living and working in El Cajon and retiring to Carmel Mountain Ranch.
Her curiosity and sense of adventure took her around the world, traveling extensively in Europe with her family, rescuing sea turtles in Suriname, taking a deep dive into the history of Egypt and climbing the Great Wall of China among other trips, after a long career with the San Diego County Department of Transportation.
Besides travel, she loved music (and to dance in private), sports, theater, good wine, cats, but most of all, she loved her family. She is survived by her children, Robert and Katherine, their spouses, Susan Kost Frey and David Colwell, her granddaughter Ashley and Ashley's husband Nathan Leathers, her great granddaughter Payton and her sister Sue (Salisbury) Sopp and Sue's husband Jerry Sopp.
May her spirit continue and may her soul rest in peace.
