Shirley Ann Tyler's Obituary
Shirley Ann Tyler
Passed away December 13, 2019, with family by her side.
She was the first child born to Kenneth and Evelyn Stevens, August 1, 1936 in North Platte, Nebraska.
Within a few years her brother, Gary was born. Her small family of four has always been very close, so of course, when it was time for a holiday dinner, family picnic, or birthday celebration, it always included multiple grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
July 31, 1941, they packed up the car for the move to California. Her Dad had learned of work opportunities in the aircraft industry. But before leaving Nebraska, they visited her Aunt Iva and celebrated Shirley’s 5th birthday. Then they drove south to Arkansas to visit her Uncle Glen and Uncle Raymond at the Army training facility. Then they were off to California……
They made their home in Linda Vista, California until Shirley started her Junior year in High School. Then they moved to Lakeside, where she attended Grossmont High School until her graduation in 1954. In 1956 her parents found a new home in La Mesa. Shirley always lived close to her parents and remained a La Mesa resident for over 60 years.
She worked at Cabrillo Hospital/Sharp Cabrillo Hospital in Point Loma, retiring after 20 years.
From a young age, Shirley collected post cards. Most were sent from vacationing relatives.
She enjoyed gardening, her roses, and her loyal dog, Sugar.
