Sidney Codrington's Obituary
Sidney Codrington was born on September 20, 1952, at Coco Solo Hospital, Canal Zone. He was the beloved son of Mary and Andrew Codrington. He grew up in Rainbow City (Camp Coiner), where he attended Rainbow Elementary School and Rainbow City Junior–Senior High School, graduating with the Class of 1971.
After graduation from high school, Sidney worked for the Panama Canal Company, and later migrated to the United States, where he joined the United States Navy. Sidney was later transferred for duty in San Diego, California, at the 32nd Street Naval Base, where he continued to serve with distinction. He proudly served for seven years, exemplifying dedication, courage, and honor in service to his country. He also obtained an Associate’s Degree in Machine Tool Technology from San Diego City College.
After completing his military service, Sidney was employed as a Machinist at NASSCO (National Steel and Shipbuilding Company). He later went on to work with the Federal Government (Civil Service), on the Naval Base in Coronado, as a Skilled Master Machinist, a trade he took great pride in. He also shared his expertise as an Instructor at San Diego Technical College, where he taught aspiring Machinists to develop their craft with precision and passion.
A proud Panamanian, and descendant from the West Indies, Sidney embraced his heritage and shared it with pride. After retiring from the Federal Government, he returned home to Panama as an entrepreneur leasing machinist equipment. In addition, he enjoyed hosting family and friends, spending time at the beach, and savoring delicious Panamanian food. His years back home were filled with peace, laughter, and gratitude: a beautiful reflection of a life well lived and richly blessed.
He was an avid sports fan, devoted to cheering on his favorite teams, the Chargers, Padres, and Lakers, with unwavering loyalty and enthusiasm. Whether celebrating a win or shaking his head at a loss, Sidney brought his trademark humor and heart to every moment.
Known by many as a true “Salsero,” Sidney’s love for salsa music and his extraordinary dancing brought joy to all who knew him. He also enjoyed dancing the Macarena and was known by many as “Macarena Sidney”. Whether at family gatherings, community celebrations, or local clubs, he could always be found on the dance floor; moving with passion, grace, and soul. His love for music reflected the way he lived: vibrant, full of rhythm, and always in step with joy.
Sidney’s laughter was infectious, his humor unmatched, and his sense of style unforgettable. He loved telling jokes, dressing sharply, and bringing light and laughter wherever he went. He also cherished spending time with his close circle of friends, who affectionately called him, “Minnie Me.” Together they shared countless memories filled with laughter, good food, and even better stories. His magnetic personality drew people in, and his kindness left a lasting mark on everyone he met.
Above all, Sidney was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His love was unconditional, his faith unwavering, and his presence a source of comfort and joy. He lived life with purpose, heart, and gratitude; always ready to celebrate, to love deeply, and to make others feel seen and cherished.
Sidney accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in 1975, and after a long and courageous battle, he gained his wings and went home to be with the Lord. He is now dancing before the Lord with grace, thanksgiving, and praise, while singing one of his favorite gospel songs, “Hallelujah, Salvation and Glory.” Sidney ran his race with courage and faith and now rests in the eternal embrace of the Lord. He is home at last, surrounded by love and light.
