Socorro C. Hayes' Obituary
Socorro C. Hayes (Cora)Our loving mother was beautiful, elegant, kind, and vibrant. Cora was a high achieving mother of six daughters, grandmother of ten, and great-grandmother of eight. She was born in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1930 and the youngest of 2 sisters and 2 brothers that she always stayed close to.At the age of 16, she came to the United States with her step-mother after losing her father. She completed her education and was married. However, she lived for her children and became an incredible provider for them. There is no doubt she was a hard worker. As a single mother, she found employment at JC Penney and became a top salesperson selling appliances. Her true passion came in 1978 when she opened her first Residential Care Home for developmental disabilities in Pine Valley. She grew her business and opened two more homes in El Cajon. As a care provider for 37 years, she took pride in the care she gave them and they became family. It gave her the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom while securing a future for herself and her children.Every spare moment was spent dancing, gardening and crocheting. Among her favorites styles of dance were ballroom, two-step and country line dancing. She, also, loved music and the company of her family and friends. She was a member of the El Cajon Elks Lodge #1812 for at least 20 years, The German American Society and a graduate of Je Boutique Beauty School. In order to see her Elks friends regularly, she bought her most recent home nearby. Dance and Karaoke nights were among her favorite.Cora was a devoted Catholic of her longtime parish, Holy Trinity Church. She especially loved the church choir’s music and she rarely missed Sunday mass throughout her life. She was a loving, compassionate, forgiving, caring, and graceful person that always put the needs of her family ahead of her own. Our mother was the heart of our family.
