Sophia B. Butram's Obituary
Sophia, 88 years young, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 10th at 7:22am, after suffering a major stroke. Sophie continued to show her strength and tenacious spirit during the greatest challenge of her life and passed away with peace, grace and dignity. Sophie began life’s journey in Greenwich, Connecticut. As a young adult, she settled in San Diego with her beloved husband Elmer of 49 years who preceded her in death. She retired from Navy Hospital and became a committed member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and took over as President of Chapter 4 in 1990, a role she enjoyed until her death. Her passion for membership recruitment and her ability to motivate and inspire retirees to stay active and involved is unsurpassed. While serving in this capacity, Sophie met her longtime companion Carl Fogle, where she developed into a true Chargers fan and season ticket holder. She is loved and adored by her daughters, Linda Brown (Arlin) and Rebecca Haidley and grandchildren Carrie (Mike), Lindsey (Jeremy), Sarah, Daniel and six great-grandchildren. Sophia will forever remain in our hearts and thoughts. “Mom, we miss you and will meet again in Heaven.” Viewing will be on Thursday, April 15 from 4 to 8pm at Greenwood Mortuary. Serviced to honor Sophie will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday April 16 at Greenwood Garden Chapel, interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Park.
